Dr Willie Reardon: Expert Medico-Legal Witness Since 1996

Dr Willie Reardon is the founder of Genetics.ie, a company that offers a wide range of genetic testing services, from testing for muscular dystrophies to chromosome disorders. Today, we look at his experience as a medico-legal witness - something he has been doing around the world for over 25 years.

During this time, Dr Reardon has acted as a medical witness in over 800 cases in the UK, Hong Kong, Ireland, the US and Australia. Providing evidence in the form of professional reports in this capacity allows clarity to be provided in important legal matters.

Extensive Medico-Legal Experience

Dr Reardon has been undertaking Expert Witness Reports in medico-legal cases since 1996, during which time he has gained considerable experience in this area. Most frequently acting for the defence, but also, on occasion, for the plaintiff, he has been instructed in both insurance-based and criminal cases when a geneticist’s opinion was needed.

A number of instructions are ongoing for Dr Reardon from Ireland’s Clinical Indemnity Scheme (CIS) and NHS Litigation Authority in the UK, and he has been invited to several seminars by UK legal firms as part of their professional development programmes.

He’s also participated at the Annual National Conference of the Professional Negligence Bar Association, as an invited speaker, and in recent years, he’s also given the annual Medical Law Lecture for Hailsham Chambers and recorded clinical genetics podcasts for Medulaw.
